Alpla to buy Romanian firm Star East Pet

Plastic packaging solutions provider Alpla has agreed to acquire Romania-based PET performs manufacturer Star East Pet for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Brasov, Star East Pet is engaged in the production of PET preforms for drinks, food and non-food products.

The acquisition will allow Alpla to expand its production capacities in Eastern Europe.

Established in 1997, the company has around 70 employees and produces PET performs for both local and international customers.

Subject to the required legal and regulatory approval by the competent authorities, the deal is expected to be completed by the middle of this year.

Alpla CEO Günther Lehner said: “We are gaining access to a strong distribution network. Star East Pet is a good strategic partner, which will help us to achieve our targets in Romania and beyond.”

Alpla, which already operates in the Romanian market, produces bottles and closures for the personal care and home care market segments.

The firm operates its own recycling plant in southern Poland to serve its customers.

In March 2016, Alpla agreed to acquire a majority stake in Egypt-based Taba Group to expand operations in Africa and the Middle East.

Established in 1988, Taba manufactures plastic bottles and closures for international customers in the pharmaceutical, home care, body care, food and beverage industries.

Alpla provides packaging solutions for brands in the food, beverage, cosmetics and cleaning industries. It employs around 17,300 people at 160 locations in 43 countries across the globe.
